Enhance your skills with a diving course at Wakatobi

The warm water, calm conditions and professional infrastructure at Wakatobi Resort create an ideal environment to develop or upgrade your diving skills. Whether you are new to the sport, needing to refresh existing skills, or seeking advanced certifications, we provide the full support needed to ensure a successful, relaxing and rewarding training experience. In most cases, the academic portion of any course work can be done in advance of your trip, so you don’t lose precious dive time. We offer youth programs, open water diving certifications, nitrox, advanced nitrox and other courses on request.

Bubblemaker

Children as young as eight can take part in the Bubblemaker program, which allows them to experience the thrill of diving safely under full supervision, and at shallow depths. It’s smart to arrange for Bubblemaker courses well in advance of your visit. Please let your guest experience representative know and our team in Bali and at the resort will make the appropriate arrangements.

Discover Scuba

The Dive Center offers Discover Scuba experiences that give non-divers their first taste of Wakatobi’s spectacular underwater world, all under the attentive supervision of our trained dive staff. For details or to make arrangements, please contact our Bali office at office@wakatobi.com or inquire with your guest experience representative.

Open Water Certification

The Open Water course takes four days to complete, and includes both academic modules and in-water practice dives. In general it is a good idea to do the theory online and the course needs to be pre-booked so that we can provide complete course material. The academic portion can be also completed in advance of arrival at the resort. If you have begun training with another instructor, resort or dive shop, you can receive credit for that work as a referral by showing a student record supplied by your former instructor. Our dive center team will need this documentation in advance of your arrival. If you have questions regarding referrals, please contact your Wakatobi guest experience representative for clarification. Due to variations in tides and currents, a minimum of a seven-day stay is recommended in order to take and complete this course.

Wakatobi Wall Dive

Advanced Open Water Certification

The Advanced Open Water Course builds upon the skills learned with Open Water certification. This program can be completed over the course of two days, and includes five specialty dives, and all required course work material. Please contact us to schedule training if you are interested.

Nitrox Certifications

Longer bottom times, shorter surface intervals, and a reduced risk of DCS. These are among the many benefits of diving nitrox – an enriched air mixture that offers a higher percentage of oxygen in the breathing medium

There are three convenient ways to get nitrox certified at Wakatobi:

1) SDI Computer Nitrox Diver Course

This online course can be taken home and covers the use of nitrox with a nitrox dive computer (no tables needed). No teaching materials are needed at the resort, and you won’t spend any of your vacation taking a class. Upon arriving at the resort, you will have a short knowledge review and a practical application session with an instructor, and then you are ready to go – from the beginning of your stay in Wakatobi Resort you will dive Nitrox. This is the preferred option.

When you have completed the academic review and practical application sessions, we will order your permanent certification card.

You can also do the course online during your stay with us, in which case, you don’t need to sign up until you arrive at the resort.

2) PADI Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver Course

Classroom option
This is a traditional course done at the resort, requiring student materials to be pre-ordered by the resort. The classroom option includes all materials and training. Upon arriving at Wakatobi, students read a booklet, watch a video and then complete the materials in the booklet. There is a review and discussion of important points with our instructor before taking a written test. Upon completing the course and examination, students will be Nitrox certified. Please contact our team at office@wakatobi for more information about the PADI classroom option.

Online course
The PADI Enriched Air Diver course online includes all the knowledge development requirements for the course. You’ll also have unlimited access to the PADI Enriched Air Diver manual online for reference after you have completed the course. After enrolling, PADI’s eLearning® system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics, and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace.

Prior to certification as a PADI Enriched Air Diver, you must complete a Quick Review, a Practical Application session and either two enriched air training dives or pre-dive simulations, with one of our PADI Enriched Air Specialty Instructors.

The PADI Enriched Air Diver course online is USD 245 (non-refundable) and needs to be paid for by credit card through PADI’s website. This fee covers the knowledge development training as well as unlimited access to the PADI Enriched Air Diver manual online. There is an additional USD 65 fee to be paid at Wakatobi for participation in the Practical Application session, the enriched air training dives, and certification upon completing the course.

The PADI Enriched Air Diver Course online will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

3) TDI Nitrox Diver Course

This is an entry-level technical diving certification course for recreational divers wishing to utilize enriched air nitrox. It involves both reading material and instructor presentations, with a suggested three hours of classroom time for USD 245. It is the best option for people who intend to further their knowledge with follow-up TDI courses such as Advanced Nitrox and Closed Circuit Rebreather. Additional information on the specifics of this program can be found on the TDI website.

Advanced Nitrox Certification

This course covers the use of breathing gases with all ranges of oxygen concentrations in the breathing mixture, from normal air to 100 percent oxygen. These mixtures can be used to increase no-decompression bottom time limits at moderate depths, enhance off-gassing during a safety stop, or decrease the duration of decompression stops. Advanced Nitrox or Extended Range divers desiring multiple nitrox mixes for faster decompression should bring appropriate certification documentation to obtain nitrox gases up to 42% and 100% pure oxygen for decompression stops 6 m and shallower.

Advanced Nitrox certification at our resort is available on special request in advance for those who are not certified and would like to earn this certification while on holiday. Contact us to find out more.
