Enhance your skills - take a diving course at Wakatobi

Wakatobi makes for a relaxed setting to upgrade your skills. In most cases course work can be done in advance of your trip, so you don't lose precious dive time. We offer courses in Nitrox, Advanced Nitrox, Open Water as well as other courses, on request.

Longer Bottom Times. Shorter Surface Intervals. These are among the many benefits of diving Nitrox - a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen in which the concentration of oxygen is greater than that found in air. You can get Nitrox Certified online before your Wakatobi trip.

There are three convenient ways to get certified:

1) SDI Computer Nitrox Diver Course

This is an online course you can take at home, teaching Nitrox to be used with a Nitrox dive computer (no tables needed). No teaching materials have to be shipped to the resort. You don't have to spend any of your holiday time taking a class. Upon arriving at the resort, you will have a short knowledge review and a practical application session with an instructor, then you are ready to go - from the beginning of your stay in Wakatobi Resort you will dive Nitrox. This is the preferred option.

When you have completed the academic review and practical application sessions, we will order your permanent certification card.

Ask us for a code here to get the special price of USD 110 (usual price USD 119.95) then start the lesson by clicking here. Please note, that the online code fee does not include the certification fee of USD 35. You can also do the course online during your stay with us, in which case, you don't need to sign up until you arrive at the resort.

2) PADI Enriched Air Diver Course

Traditional course
You can take a traditional PADI course upon arriving at the resort. We have to buy and ship sets of student materials to the resort to offer this option. Upon arriving at the resort, students read a booklet, watch a video and then complete materials in the booklet. You will review and discuss important points with our instructor before taking a written test. Upon successfully completing the course and examination you will be Nitrox certified. You will have to spend time during your holiday to take the course.

You'll need your PADI Enriched Air Crew-Pak, which includes an Enriched Air 32 percent Table, Enriched Air 36 percent Table and Equivalent Air Depth/Oxygen Exposure Table.

Your cost of the PADI course taken at Wakatobi is $160 USD and includes all materials and training.

Online course
The PADI Enriched Air Diver course online includes all the knowledge development requirements for the course. You'll also have unlimited access to the PADI Enriched Air Diver manual online for reference after you have completed the course.

After enrolling, PADI's eLearning® system presents you with interactive presentations that include videos, audio, graphics and reading. Short quizzes let you gauge your progress, and review and correct anything you might happen to miss. This lets you move through the program efficiently and at your own pace.

Prior to certification as a PADI Enriched Air Diver, you must complete a Quick Review, a Practical Application session and either two enriched air training dives or predive simulations, with one of our PADI Enriched Air Specialty Instructors.

The PADI Enriched Air Diver course online is USD 220 (non-refundable) and needs to be paid for by credit card through PADIs website. This fee covers the knowledge development training as well as unlimited access to the PADI Enriched Air Diver manual online. There is an additional USD 65 fee to be paid at Wakatobi for participation in the Practical Application session, the enriched air training dives and certification upon successfully completing the course.

The PADI Enriched Air Diver Course online will take approximately 3 hours to complete.

3) TDI Nitrox Diver Course

This is a NITROX course which requires you to read a book, watch a presentation by the instructor and delivers a deeper understanding of the matter. Best option for people who intend to further their knowledge with follow-up TDI courses such as Advanced Nitrox and Closed Circuit Rebreather.

This is the entry-level technical diving certification course for recreational divers wishing to utilize enriched air Nitrox (EAN) as a breathing gas. The objective of this course is to train divers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures for using Nitrox mixes from 22% to 40% oxygen content.

  • Two Nitrox dives are recommended but are not required. However, optional dives are desirable to effectively demonstrate the advantages of EAN use in practical field use.
  • Duration: The suggested number of classroom hours is three.
  • Required material TDI Understanding Nitrox diver manual
  • Required Skill Performance and Graduation Requirements
  • Maximum training depths shall not exceed 40 m / 130 ft. The following open water skills must be completed by the student during all open water dives:
  • Pre-dive Use TDI Tables to plan a Nitrox dive taking advantage of EAD calculations.
  • Create a simple written dive plan for a Nitrox dive to an appropriate depth (MOD calculated with P02's between 1.3 and 1.6 depending on environmental conditions).
  • Demonstrate correct use of oxygen analyzer.
  • Demonstrate correct tank management and labeling.
  • Conduct simple pre-dive briefing (may be simulated if dives are not part of program).
  • Program Nitrox computer, if used, with appropriate oxygen percentage if used.

In order to complete this course, students must:

  • Satisfactorily complete the TDI Nitrox Course written examination.
  • Demonstrate understanding of oxygen analysis for Nitrox mixtures.

Advanced Nitrox certification

For all ranges of oxygen concentrations in the breathing mixture, from normal air all the way up to 100 percent oxygen to greatly increase no-decompression bottom time limits at moderate depths. The ability to use high level oxygen breathing mixtures enhances or speeds up decompression times, or also enhances the off-gassing during a safety stop.

Advanced Nitrox or Extended Range divers desiring multiple Nitrox mixes for faster decompression, please bring your certification card to obtain NITROX gases up to 42% plus 100% pure oxygen (for Decompression stops 6 m and shallower).

Advanced Nitrox certification at our resort is available on special request in advance for those who are not certified and would like to earn this certification while on holiday. Contact us to find out more.

Open Water certification

The Open Water course takes 4 days to finish and include the manual, theory, and full certification. Due to variations in tides and currents, a minimum of a 7-day stay is recommended in order to take and complete this course.

In general it is a good idea to do the theory online and the course needs to be pre booked so that we can provide complete course material.

Advanced Open Water certification

The Advanced Open Water Course is a continuing course and takes two days. It includes 5 specialty dives, Manual and Scuba Review. Please contact us if you are interested.

Don't forget the kids - children as young as eight can take part in the Bubblemaker program in which they get to experience the thrill of diving in safety under full supervision and at shallow depths.
